OUR SOUL’S DECAY ….

OUR SOUL’S DECAY

2011

A year our global society’s dignitaries would have us believe will be a landmark.

The day this «crisis» knocked on Greece’s front door and we opened, a huge question racks my brain.

Let us suppose that in a few years we have overcome this crisis, that we have reduced deficit, have set everything straight, at any rate. My question is how long will it take for us to mess things up again? Naturally, I ask this question using the first person plural out of idiotic courtesy.

I say that the day after we step out of the crisis, we’ll redirect ourselves once more towards the same shit.

So long as people don’t demand it, the law pertaining to the (ir)responsibility of ministers and MP’s won’t change. So long as parliamentary immunity holds and MP’s slates are wiped clean by law, this land won’t ever heal.

I hear the Left-wing parties yelling, justly so, in favor of workers’ rights. But I don’t hear anyone yelling or rallying people behind the war cry to lift the impunity of those who truly submerged the country into bankruptcy. I don’t see any mass demonstration outside Parliament by a sovereign populace asking for what’s right and self-evident: PUT THE THIEVES IN JAIL AND RETURN WHAT WAS STOLEN!

They have the right to indict and imprison me and you, the simple citizen, because I may not be able to pay my taxes on time. And they have this right from the very first Euro we owe. The gentlemen who sit on parliamentary benches, not only those today but all those who have sat in Parliament after the fall of the junta in 1974, have carte blanche to waste public funds (in other words our money), openly pocketing it oftentimes and yet they go about free and pretty as can be. And they hurl obscenities at us on top of it all. And they call us thieves, vagabond charlatans, curs, corrupt.

So, you gentlemen would like me to lift the weight of this crisis on my shoulders? You want me still to give up my soul for this country that I adore? I will DO it! But first of all, fairly and simply, acknowledge responsibility where it’s due and then send everyone the bill they need to pay. Give each his fair due accordingly. Because we may have eaten together at the same table, but it wasn’t agreed on that we would go Dutch. Whatever each person ate, that’s what they should pay.

I therefore propose the following:

REPEAL MP IMMUNITY NOW!

ABOLISH THE LAW RELATED TO MINISTERIAL RESPONSIBILITY!

REOPEN ALL CASES OF SUSPECTED CORRUPTION INVOLVING POLITICIANS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FROM 1974 ONWARDS!

FORBID ALL THOSE SUSPECTED OF ILLEGALLY ACCUMULATING WEALTH FROM LEAVING THE COUNTRY AND  CONFISCATE ALL THEIR ASSETS, AS WELL AS THOSE OF UP TO AND INCLUDING SECOND DEGREE RELATIVES !

IMPRISONMENT AND PUBLIC EXPOSURE OF ALL THOSE WHO, BASED ON IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE, HAVE EMBEZZLED PUBLIC PROPERTY!

AND THEN EXAMINE POOR CIVILIANS, PENSIONERS AND WAGE EARNERS!

That is justice …

And finally, let’s bring back to the conscience of every Greek the notions this country has  bred: FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, MERITOCRACY, EQUALITY, ETHOS, JUSTICE.

Let principles such as NATION, MOTHERLAND, SOLIDARITY, HONESTY, HOSPITALITY, RESPECT, TRUTH, CIVILITY, that have been so vehemently fought against and polluted by foreign interests and their minions, within our own country, become once again the backbone in our efforts towards REBIRTH!
