IMF board member criticizes Fund’s Greece program

Brazil’s International Monetary Fund representative has criticized the tough reforms demanded of Greece, saying the Fund and its bailout partners appear to want to run the Greek economy themselves.

Paulo Nogueira Batista, who represents Brazil and 10 other countries at the global crisis lender, said in a May 30 statement to the board that Greece has already made substantial progress under harsh austerity conditions.

The statement, obtained by AFP after the board approved the release of new funds to Athens, said the IMF and its European partners should ease some of the conditions of their massive rescue program for the country.

«Fiscal adjustment has been very large and the return to a primary surplus in 2013 constituted an important milestone. It is hard to see how the country can do more on this front,» said Nogueira Batista.

He pointed out that Greece could only manage to ease its economic contraction last year by not meeting all the tough reforms the lenders demanded of it.

«This seems to indicate that the number of structural measures the Troika has been demanding from Greece is rather excessive.»

In the 81 pages of detailed policy demands of the newest stage of the IMF-European Commission-European Central Bank rescue program, he said Greece appears to be «a victim of German thoroughness».

Money Aplenty for Politicians: Let the rest eak cake

Another €10 million dished out to Greek political parties

They got paid once for the upcoming elections by voting an amendment in the late hours of the night at the beginning of April. Not satisfied with the necks they sucked on the first time, the Greek vampire politicians are set to obtain extra funding to the tune of €10 million. Whatever the case may be, it was a contingency measure, you see.

The first time round, MPs voted to divert funds from debt installments owed to banks in order to finance political parties in view of the elections of May 6. The official explanation for the extra cash was  «in order to secure the conditions for continuity of political parties in the national elections.»

Yes, people were outraged, but who gives a cowpat over at the IMF or the European Commission? We Συνέχεια

Constitutional violations that have occurred recently in Greece

The following constitutional violations have occurred during the last years in Greece of the economic crisis:

1. Contrary to the constitution, the voting of the Memorandum of passage 1 and the illegal signing of the first loan agreement by Mr. G. Papakonstantinou, under no legitimacy and in secrecy by the Greek people and the parliament. In violation of the constitution, under Memorandum 2, the assignment of sovereignty and control of the Greek state in which foreign powers have no legitimacy to intervene in the internal affairs of Greece but they are committed to safeguard the interests of questionable lenders and not to violate the rights of Greek people.

2. From the November 11, 2011, the illegal and unconstitutional appointment, against the will of the Greek people as prime minister of Mr Lucas Papademos and the cooperation with the party leaders of Συνέχεια

Greek prime minister warns of March default

Greek tax workers strike over cuts

A poster reads: »We strike in reaction…Dec.29 and 30, 2011» at the entrance of a tax office in Greece (AP)

Comment by MySatelite:

If by now the EU and Greek politicians do not see that the enforcement of more and more taxes is not paying off then who will stop the country’s downslide? This rather proves that no one really is concerned about kick-starting the economy at all, but what matters to everyone is how certain individuals will make money off of interest (cf. Papandreou’s talks with the IMF before anyone spoke of debt problems, his pre-electoral lies that there is a lot of money to go round and his unconditional acceptance of terms and conditions of loans with an interest rate not given to other EU nations in the same predicament).

Years of quotas imposed by the EU on Greek products did wonders for the nation so yes, Greeks need to pay back the EU that helped so generously in aiding the country to become commercially competitive. Greek politicians, who have been hailed as saviors by the foreign press and have squandered trillions, are not to blame either — Greek citizens are, right? The latter therefore need to pay up for the inept governments of the past three decades, and that makes sense — no one in their right mind would hold a CEO or accountants responsible for a company’s bankruptcy. It is the factory workers who went out for drinks every Friday night that disgraced it.

Aerial Viewing of Greece (video)

We posted an article five days ago here on MySatelite with one of the most beautiful videos of Greece and thought it a pity if a short comment in English were not added to make this splendid video available to English-speakers as well.

Despite propaganda emanating from Wall Street, the ECB, IMF and various other consortia which have been banking all along on this financial crisis like a roulette addict on 18 red, Greece has much to offer, though its politicians are bent on selling off its most prized assets — its land and natural resources — at ridiculously cheap prices, which has been in our view one of the prime reasons for the instigation of this crisis in the first place.

This video was made to remind us in Greece of the beauties of the blessed country we live in: its seas, Συνέχεια

Let Them Eat π

Yet another excellent article from Sturdyblog that steers away from the usual propagandist ranting of the media that is simply a tool in the hands of speculative bankers and other investor think tanks geared towards shaping public opinion to suit their needs.

The only regret I have when reading this gem is that punches were pulled. Papademos and Monti need to be seen as usurpers of democracy and their respective rise to power called coups d’état, plain and simple. Most important of all is the fact that people in Greece believe their country’s rising debt is not just 30-years’ worth of bad politics, corruption and inept members of Parliament — it’s been a methodical, calculated plan executed with preciseness, enabling the few to live off the many.

My firm belief is that this has been in the making for a long time. Greece practically hasn’t had a single patriot in office since WWII. Foreign interests influenced and still influence decisions to benefit everyone but us Greeks. Some saw the world as an orange, squeezing (half of it) as much as they could out of Third World countries — sorry, that would be developing countries to those who want politically correct euphemisms used to spice up slavery as an on-going evolutionary process towards development. Now that the orange is starting to shrivel, they’ve decided to pick up the other half by turning to Europe and as I foresee other developed countries and squeeze out the savings it managed to accumulate throughout the years.

Enjoy the read, and many thanks to the author for a very fine piece.

A miserable failure of the IMF prescription

THE FIGURES disclosed by the Hellenic Statistical Authority last month show the complete failure of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) prescription for Greece, resulting in a rapid increase in inflation, but also a reduction in the revenues.

So, annual inflation in July rose to 5.5 percent from 5.2 percent in June 2010 and 0.6 percent in July 2009, now returning to 1997 levels! In addition, state revenues in July decreased by 10 percent overall and Value-Added Tax (VAT) returns by 5 percent, despite the fact that all indirect taxes have increased.

It has now become evident to the government and the IMF Συνέχεια

Prelude to the selling out of the Greek people

Published 06/02/2011

We had promised that we would reveal how Greece ended up being sold for a pittance to the International Monetary Fund. And we have already said that the information is already publicly available. What we do here is freshen up the memory of the Greek citizens and, through our translation project, provide this information to everyone else outside Greece as well. You see, the Greek people were systematically slandered by the media – the Greeks were described as lazy, good-for-nothing bums, parasites, living at the expense of the other peoples of the European Union. The German media (mainly the highly influential right-wing rags Bild and Focus) dubbed Greeks -collectively- thieves and spewed endless hatred towards Greeks in the German society; hate that was almost equal to the anti-Semitic rage of the NSDAP. World Debt – Proof that someone is stringing some nations along when they should be saving someone else

Go take a look at the world debt clock at http://www.economist.com/content/global_debt_clock. We’ve heard about it, probably seen it as well. But this time shed your eyes on the map beneath the clock and just for the fun of it, to the right of the map compare three countries. I just chose Greece, the U.S. and the United Kingdom, seeing as the last two countries have never been mentioned on the news as being debt-ridden. I won’t say anything more. I simply counted the zeros in the total amount of public debt and looked at the percentage of total annual debt change.

Now take a look at the table below and tell  me what’s wrong with Greece which isn’t wrong with other countries. Συνέχεια

PM opts for reshuffle, vote of confidence

COMMENT BY FENRIR:

The majority in Greece demand all 300 Members of Parliament to give back what they’ve stolen and then resign, and as you can see, politicians just care about keeping their seat in Parliament and receiving that fat pay check at the end of the month.

And since the first bailout didn’t work, why is the IMF promising a second one? What collateral will they get in return? What is really behind all this bankruptcy sham and who is really going to benefit from it?

The reason Greeks are out in the streets is because they’ve put the pieces of the puzzle together. It’s obnoxious to say Greece is in trouble when so many other countries owe ten times more.  Is it coincidence that so many flocked to help Greece when precious minerals inland and oil was discovered off its shores?

Greece says debt negotiations concluded positively

Greece says debt negotiations concluded positively

A near month-long inspection of Greek finances by the European Union, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund concluded «positively» on Friday, the country’s finance ministry said.

The inspection is crucial to whether Greece will receive the next batch of loans from a €110 billion bailout fund from the EU and IMF agreed last year and could well inform discussions over an extension to the current financial rescue package.

Greek opposition sets demands as EU/IMF verdict nears

ATHENS | Mon May 30, 2011 7:55am EDT

(Reuters) – Greece’s conservative opposition demanded tax cuts on Monday as the price for a consensus deal with the Socialist government on imposing yet more austerity, a major condition for getting further aid from the EU and IMF.

Conservative leader Antonis Samaras called for a flat 15 percent corporate tax and rejected government plans for hiking taxes to tackle Greece’s budget deficit and please fiscal inspectors mulling the next, key tranche of a 110 billion euro bailout. Συνέχεια
