Suspended in the air – Meteora (video)

Meteora – sandstone rock pillars situated in the Plain of Thessaly in central Greece, monasteries perched overlooking the plains. Nowhere on earth will you feel the same sense of exhilaration as when you stand and gaze beneath you at the lands that spread as far as the eye can see.

Μόλις πέρσι τέλειωσαν το σχολείο. Ακριβώς πριν ένα χρόνο, έπαιζαν σ’ένα club στο Long Beach,και δεν τους επέτρεπαν την είσοδο μέχρι τη στιγμή που θα έβγαιναν στην σκηνή. Θα μπορούσαν να είναι η παρέα της κόρης μου, όμως εμένα αυτό το τραγούδι κάτι μου είπε. Και προφανώς όχι μόνο εμένα. Κάποιος τους άκουσε, υπέγραψαν στην SUB POP, έβγαλαν το συγκεκριμένο κομμάτι σε cd 7”, πριν λίγο εβγαλαν και album, ΝΜΕ, Guardian, Rolling Stone, έγραψαν γι’αυτό το κομμάτι και περιοδεύουν και στην Ευρώπη.

Ο Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg («αρχηγός» και συνθέτης) και η παρέα του, είναι πολύ μπροστά από την ηλικία τους. Λόγια ελκυστικά και αφελή (“you are tiny and your lips are like little pieces of bacon” = “είσαι μικροκαμωμένη και τα χείλη σου είναι σαν κομματάκια μπέικον”) αλλά και σοφά (“What’s in it for someone with nothing to do? What’s in it for me?”=”Και τι θα βγάλει απ’αυτό κάποιος που δεν έχει τίποτα να κάνει; Και τί θα βγάλω εγώ;”), σε μια ήρεμη μελωδία, με κιθάρα που θυμίζει δεκαετία ’70. Ο Avi τραγουδά με την παιδική φωνή του και τη στιγμή που το τραγούδι  κορυφώνεται, βγάζει ένα φαλτσέτο κι από πίσω ακούγεται μια παράξενη χορωδία, κι εκεί η καρδιά μου χοροπηδά, λες και είμαστε συνομήλικοι. Και το ίδιο μου συνέβη κάθε μία από τις ΠΟΛΛΕΣ φορές που άκουσα το κομμάτι.

Οι Αvi Buffalo τραγουδούν για την –από κάθε άποψη- χρεοκοπημένη γενιά τους, αλλά σαφώς καταφέρνει να συγκινεί και τη γενιά των μανάδων τους.
