Dear Mr. President,

The current Greek Prime Minister must have been unbearably pushy to secure an official visit to the White House –an importunate invitation seeker, no doubt; it’s not hard to tell. So, I can sympathize with your decision to give up.

Why not, one might argue. Besides,  Greece is viewed by tradition as a developed Western country of great historical significance, and one which upholds the democratic values, while maintaining strong ties of friendship with the United States. Right?

However, Mr. President, we feel you are about to welcome the head of a government whose record of a persistent rule by decree, along with a shameless defiance of Supreme Court rulings against it, has outscored within just one year in office the total of like decrees issued by the military junta during the latter’s full seven years term –the same military junta former President Clinton, in the words of…

Editorial Note:  Of all the nations experiencing traumatic economic difficulties during the course of the current Great Recession, Greece has suffered the most adverse consequences.  The country’s five year economic problems have been longer and deeper than that of any developed country.  In fact, Greece has gone through a catastrophic depression otherwise unknown in the West.

The  standard of living has dropped drastically; unemployment has reached 26%; the debt to GDP ratio  is over 180%; the country’s “fiscal cliff” is looming bankruptcy;  social spending and the “safety net” have been eviscerated; while demonstrations and riots target both domestic debt reduction measures and the financial institutions  of the European Union power brokers. Μεταφράσαμε ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον άρθρο του οικονομολόγου και ιστορικού Webster Tarpley για τις γεωπολιτικές επιπτώσεις, βραχυπρόθεσμες και μεσοπρόθεσμες, από «την υπόθεση της επιδρομής Μπιν Λάντεν» στο Πακιστάν. Eπιπτώσεις που γίνονται κάθε μέρα πιο εμφανείς.

Ενώ διασκεδάζουν τους δυτικούς λαούς με αστειότητες και γελοιότητες, πίσω από προπετάσματα καπνού χρήσιμα για την ιμπεριαλιστική ατζέντα, οικοδομούνται τα μεγάλα ιστορικά γεγονότα του αύριο.

Το σενάριο του 3ου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου γράφεται αυτή τη στιγμή και αν δεν είναι έτσι… πολύ του μοιάζει πάντως! …
